The Problem
Users were constantly switching between list and detail views
When reviewing candidates or vendors in Workday VNDLY, users had to navigate back and forth between a list view and a detail page for each record. This constant context-switching was time-consuming and made comparison across multiple records difficult.
For recruiters reviewing multiple candidates at once, this flow created significant cognitive load — by the time they returned to the list, they had lost context from the previous record.

My Approach
A split-panel design that keeps context always visible
Audited the existing navigation pattern to understand where users were losing context most frequently
Designed a persistent split-panel layout — list on the left, detail panel on the right — that updates inline as users click records
Ensured the selected record in the list stays highlighted so users always know where they are
Designed responsive collapse behaviour for smaller viewports, defaulting back to single-panel
Validated with recruiters in usability testing that the panel widths and typography were comfortable for sustained reading

Faster, more confident candidate and vendor review
The split list significantly reduced the number of navigation actions needed to review multiple records, making the overall workflow faster and less frustrating for high-volume users.
